Joyce Watson| Mid & West Wales / Canolbarth & Gorllewin Cymru

Joyce Watson was first elected to the Welsh Assembly in May 2007, has firm links with Mid & West Wales, and has served her community for many years.

She is married, has three children and two grandchildren. 

Joyce was educated at Manorbier School, Cosheston School and Cardigan Comprehensive. She has run several businesses, including public houses, restaurants and retail outlets in Ceredigion, Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire.

In 1990 she went to Pembrokeshire College, then in 1993 she read Politics at Swansea University, gaining an honours degree whilst running Labour's successful parliamentary campaign for Preseli Pembrokeshire.

She has been active in the Labour Party all her adult life, and was leader of the Labour group on Pembrokeshire Council for six years. She was the only female member on Pembrokeshire County Council representing a ward within the Preseli Pembrokeshire constituency from 1995 – 2004.

Joyce was Manager of the Wales Women’s National Coalition with an all Wales remit and was a senior member of the Wales Gender Budget Group and the NHS Equality Reference Group. Joyce is the founding member and chairperson of the All Party Group on Construction, a position she has held since 2008.

She is a Welsh learner, and her children were all educated in Welsh medium schools.

Joyce has been actively involved in a number of high profile campaigns on issues affecting Mid & West Wales and Wales wide.

These include launching the Women in Construction campaign; campaigns to highlight the risk of undiagnosed high blood pressure and the risk of stroke; a campaign to change the planning laws in Wales to deal with Surface Water Flooding through the proposal for a Legislative Competence Order (LCO); and a campaign to highlight and tackle the issue of Human Trafficking in Wales. On the 25th May 2010, as Chair of the Cross-Party Group on the Trafficking of Women and Children, Joyce published a report titled, ‘Local Solutions to an International Crime: Trafficking of Women and Children in Wales 2010’.

Her political interests include Sustainability, Economic Development, Local Government and Equalities, Rural Transport and Road Safety.


 

Cafodd Joyce Watson ei hethol gyntaf i’r Cynulliad Cenedlaethol ym mis Mai 2007, mae ganddi gysylltiadau cadarn â Chanolbarth a Gorllewin Cymru, ac mae wedi gwasanaethu ei chymuned ers blynyddoedd lawer.

Cafodd Joyce ei haddysgu yn Ysgol Manorbier, Ysgol Cosheston ac Ysgol Uwchradd Aberteifi.  Mae wedi rhedeg sawl busnes, yn cynnwys tafarndai, bwytai a siopau manwerthu yng Ngheredigion, Sir Gaerfyrddin a Sir Benfro.

Yn 1990, aeth i Goleg Sir Benfro, yna ym 1993 astudiodd Wleidyddiaeth ym Mhrifysgol Abertawe, gan gael gradd anrhydedd tra’n cynnal ymgyrch seneddol llwyddiannus Llafur ar gyfer Preseli Penfro.

Mae wedi bod yn weithgar yn y Blaid Lafur am ei holl fywyd fel oedolyn, ac roedd yn arweinydd y grŵp Llafur ar Gyngor Sir Penfro am chwe blynedd. Hi oedd yr unig aelod benywaidd ar Gyngor Sir Penfro i gynrychioli ward o fewn etholaeth Preseli Penfro o 1995 - 2004.

Roedd Joyce yn Rheolwr Cymru Clymblaid Genedlaethol Menywod Cymru gyda chylch gorchwyl Cymru gyfan ac roedd yn uwch aelod o Grŵp Cyllidebau ar Sail Rhyw Cymru a Grŵp Cyfeirio Cydraddoldeb y GIG. Hi yw sylfeinydd a chadeirydd y Grŵp Adeiladu Hollbleidiol, swydd y mae wedi ei gwneud er 2008. Mae Joyce wedi bod yn weithgar mewn nifer o ymgyrchoedd proffil uchel yn ymwneud â materion sy’n effeithio ar Ganolbarth a Gorllewin Cymru a Chymru gyfan.

Mae’r rhain yn cynnwys lansio ymgyrch Menywod ym Maes Adeiladu; ymgyrchoedd i amlygu’r perygl o bwysedd gwaed uchel heb gael diagnosis a’r perygl o strôc; ymgyrch i newid cyfreithiau cynllunio yng Nghymru er mwyn ymdrin â Llifogydd Dŵr Arwyneb trwy’r cynnig am Orchymyn Cymhwysedd Deddfwriaethol (LCO); ac ymgyrch i amlygu a mynd i’r afael â phroblem Masnachu Pobl yng Nghymru. Ar 25 Mai 2010, fel Cadeirydd y Grŵp Trawsbleidiol ar Fasnachu Menywod a Phlant, cyhoeddodd Joyce adroddiad o’r enw, ‘Atebion Lleol i Droseddu Rhyngwladol: Masnachu Pobl a Phlant yng Nghymru 2010’.

Mae ei diddordebau gwleidyddol yn cynnwys Cynaliadwyedd, Datblygu Economaidd, Llywodraeth Leol a Chydraddoldeb, Trafnidiaeth Wledig a Diogelwch ar y Ffyrdd.

Mae Joyce yn briod, mae ganddi dri o blant a dau o wyrion.  Mae’n ddysgwraig a chafodd ei phlant i gyd eu haddysgu mewn ysgolion cyfrwng Cymraeg.
