Lee Waters | Llanelli

Lee Waters was born and raised in the Llanelli constituency. Prior to being elected as Assembly Member for Llanelli, Lee was Director of Wales' leading think-tank, the Institute of Welsh Affairs, where he worked with a range of experts to come up with ideas to improve people's lives.

He went to Ammanford Comprehensive School and graduated from the University of Wales, Aberystwyth with a first class degree in politics. After working in the House of Commons, National Assembly for Wales and US House of Representatives, Lee became a news producer for BBC Wales. He went on to work for ITV Wales, becoming Chief Political Correspondent where he presented a weekly programme and reported from Parliament as a Lobby Correspondent.

His voluntary work as a Chair of Governors for a local primary school led him to leave journalism and run the environmental charity Sustrans Cymru, where he led the successful campaign for the world’s first Active Travel Act, and oversaw a £20 Million portfolio of practical projects.

He was a leading figure in the 2011 referendum ‘Yes for Wales’ cross-party campaign as the Vice-Chair and lead on communications.

He is married with two children.


Cafodd Lee Waters ei eni a’i fagu yn etholaeth Llanelli. Ef yw Cyfarwyddwr melin drafod fwyaf blaenllaw Cymru, y Sefydliad Materion Cymreig, lle mae’n gweithio gydag ystod o arbenigwyr yn dod o hyd i syniadau i wella bywydau pobl. 

Aeth Lee i Ysgol Gyfun Rhydaman a graddiodd ym Mhrifysgol Cymru, Aberystwyth gyda gradd dosbarth cyntaf mewn gwleidyddiaeth. Ar ôl gweithio yn Nhŷ’r Cyffredin, daeth Lee yn gynhyrchydd newyddion i BBC Cymru. Aeth i weithio i ITV Cymru, gan ddod yn Brif Ohebydd Gwleidyddol yn cyflwyno rhaglen wythnosol ac yn gohebu o’r Senedd fel Gohebydd Lobïo.

Yn sgil gwaith Lee fel Cadeirydd Llywodraethwyr ysgol gynradd leol, gadawodd y maes newyddiaduraeth er mwyn rhedeg yr elusen amgylcheddol Sustrans Cymru, gan arwain yr ymgyrch llwyddiannus ar gyfer Deddf Teithio Egnïol gyntaf y byd, gan oruchwylio portffolio o £20 Miliwn o brosiectau ymarferol.

Roedd Lee yn flaenllaw yn ymgyrch trawsbleidiol refferendwm ‘Ie dros Gymru’ 2011 fel Is-gadeirydd ac arweinydd cyfathrebu.
