Record number of candidates fielded by Welsh Labour as party promises a ‘Fair Deal for Wales’

Welsh Labour Leader and First Minister Carwyn Jones launched Welsh Labour’s local election campaign in Newport this week, and promised ‘a Fair Deal’ to communities across the country.

Speaking ahead of the launch, Welsh Labour Leader and First Minister Carwyn Jones said:

“The elections in May will see a record number of Welsh Labour candidates standing across Wales. Our results in 2012 set the bar exceptionally high but we begin this campaign from a position of strength. These past five years have seen Labour councillors up and down Wales champion their local communities and deliver for residents despite the huge budget cuts from the Tory UK Government.

“Welsh Labour councils working with the Welsh Labour Government have built new council homes, they’ve helped to deliver the best GCSE and A Level results ever, supported small business and led ambitious regeneration programmes in towns and cities all over the country. That’s the Welsh Labour record - partnership and delivery underpinned with fairness.

“Our offer at this election is simple: on May 4th vote Welsh Labour for a fair deal for you and your community.”
