Sandy Mewies was elected as the Assembly Member for Delyn in 2003 and re-elected in 2007. From 2003 – 2009 Sandy Chaired the European and External Affair Committee in the Assembly and continues to be very interested in EU matters as a past director of the former Wales European Centre in Brussels.
Sandy was also the chair of the Communities and Culture Committee and was a member of the Public Accounts and Children and Young People Committees.
Before being elected to the National Assembly Sandy was a Wrexham County Borough Councillor serving as Deputy Leader of the Council , Social Services Chair and Mayor. Her main career was in journalism, working for a number of years for newspapers in North East Wales and Chester.
She has also been a Lay Inspector of Schools and worked in the Voluntary Sector in North East Wales. She was also a member of the North Wales Probation Board. Sandy is immensely proud to serve the people of Delyn, where she lives with her husband Paul near Holywell.
Sandy enjoys travelling, reading and is an enthusiastic cook. She gained a degree from the Open University and is an Honorary Fellow of Glyndwr University. Sandy is committed to ensuring that the residents of Delyn Constituency have a strong voice representing them in the National Assembly for Wales.
