Stephen Doughty MP|Cardiff South & Penarth / De Caerdydd a Phenarth

Stephen lives in Splott, and was born and brought up in Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan. He went to Llantwit Major Comprehensive School in the Vale of Glamorgan, followed by studies in Canada, and at Oxford and St Andrews Universities.

Stephen worked for over six years in a range of campaigning roles in international charities including World Vision and Oxfam, as well as work with the Robin Hood Taxcampaign and Make Poverty History.

Stephen has supported the Bluebirds for 25 years this year, and is a current season ticket holder. He is also a big Wales rugby fan. He was a Cub and Scout leader for the last eight years, and volunteers in the local community.

As a senior policy adviser on poverty, development, trade and humanitarian affairs to Rt Hon Douglas Alexander MP as Secretary of State for International Development in the last Labour Government - Stephen played his part in responding to international disasters like the Haiti earthquake, pushing to help make healthcare and education free for some of the world’s poorest people, and tackling global challenges like climate change.

Stephen also worked as constituency caseworker – dealing directly with the concerns of local people in South Wales, and worked with former Cardiff South and Penarth AM, Lorraine Barrett.

He is a trade union member, and a proud member of the Cooperative Party.

Mae Stephen yn byw yn Sblot a chafodd ei eni a’i fagu yng Nghaerdydd a Bro Morgannwg. Aeth i Ysgol Gyfun Llanilltud Fawr ym Mro Morgannwg, ac yna astudiodd yng Nghanada, ac ym Mhrifysgolion Rhydychen a St Andrews.

Mae Stephen wedi gweithio am dros chwe blynedd mewn ystod o rolau ymgyrchu gydag elusennau rhyngwladol yn cynnwys World Vision ac Oxfam, yn ogystal â gweithio gydag ymgyrch Treth Robin Hood a Rhown Derfyn ar Dlodi.

Bydd Stephen wedi cefnogi’r Adar Gleision er 25 mlynedd eleni, ac mae ganddo docyn tymor ar hyn o bryd. Mae hefyd yn cefnogi tîm rygbi Cymru. Bu’n arweinydd y Cybiau a’r Sgowtiaid am yr wyth mlynedd diwethaf, ac mae’n gwirfoddoli yn y gymuned leol.

Fel uwch gynghorydd polisi ar dlodi, datblygu, masnach a materion dyngarol i’r Gwir Anrhydeddus Douglas Alexander AS ac Ysgrifennydd Gwladol Datblygu Rhyngwladol yn y Llywodraeth Lafur ddiwethaf – mae Stephen wedi chwarae ei ran yn ymateb i argyfyngau rhyngwladol fel daeargryn Haiti, rhoi pwysau i gynnig gofal iechyd ac addysg yn rhad ac am ddim i rai o bobl dlotaf y byd, a mynd i’r afael â heriau byd-eang fel newid yn yr hinsawdd.

Mae Stephen hefyd wedi gweithio fel gweithiwr achosion etholaethol – yn ymdrin yn uniongyrchol â phryderon pobl leol yn Ne Cymru, ac mae wedi gweithio gyda chyn-AS De Caerdydd a Phenarth, Lorraine Barrett.

Mae’n aelod o undeb llafur, ac yn aelod balch o’r Blaid Gydweithredol.
