Susan Elan Jones MP|Clwyd South / De Clwyd

Susan is a strong supporter of the Welsh language and culture and, as a member of the Welsh Affairs Select Committee and the Public Bodies Bill Committee, championed the cause of Welsh TV channel S4C.

After serving as Parliamentary Private Secretary to Rt Hon Harriet Harman MP, Susan was appointed to Labour’s frontbench team in 2011. She is the Shadow Wales Office Minister. Susan is a member of many different community organisations in her constituency. These include St David’s Church, Rhos; the Brymbo Heritage Group; and the Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod, of which she is Vice President.

Before first being elected to Parliament in 2010, Susan spent 15 years working for charities. She is committed to using her expertise in this area as part of her work as an MP. Susan is Co-Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group for Charities and Volunteering and she co-authored ‘The Red Book of the Voluntary Sector’. As a member of the Small Charitable Donations Bill Committee, Susan played a key part in getting the Government to increase funding for small charities.

Susan won cross-party support to introduce a bill to Parliament that sought to review sentencing for unlicensed or uninsured drivers who kill or seriously injure people. Susan was awarded 2015 Parliamentarian of the Year by national road safety charity BRAKE. Her campaigning also played a significant role in persuading the Government to undertake a sentencing review for all driving offences.

Mae Susan yn gefnogol iawn o’r Gymraeg a diwylliant Cymru ac, fel aelod o’r Pwyllgor Dethol ar Faterion Cymreig a Phwyllgor Bil Cyrff Cyhoeddus, fe frwydrodd hi dros y sianel deledu Gymraeg S4C.

Ar ôl gwasanaethu fel Ysgrifennydd Preifat Seneddol i’r Gwir Anrhydeddus Harriet Harman AS, yn 2011 fe benodwyd Susan fel aelod o fainc flaen tîm seneddol y Blaid Lafur yn San Steffan. Mae Susan yn Gweinidog y Swyddfa Gymreig i’r Wrthblaid. Mae Susan yn aelod o nifer o sefydliadau lleol yn ei hetholaeth gan gynnwys Eglwys Dewi Sant, Rhos; Grŵp Etifeddiaeth Brymbo ac Eisteddfod Gerddorol Ryngwladol Llangollen (fel Is-Lywydd).

Cyn iddi gael ei hethol yn Aelod Seneddol yn 2010 bu’n gweithio i elusennau am 15 mlynedd. Mae Susan wedi ymrwymo i ddefnyddio ei harbenigedd yn y maes hwn fel rhan o’i gwaith fel AS. Mae Susan yn Gyd-Gadeirydd y Grŵp Traws Bleidiol dros Elusennau a Gwirfoddoli ac mae hi’n gyd-awdur ‘Llyfr Coch y Sector Gwirfoddol’. Fel aelod o bwyllgor Bil Rhoddion Elusennol Bach, chwaraeodd Susan ran allweddol wrth gael y Llywodraeth i gynyddu’r cyllid sydd ar gael ar gyfer elusennau bach.

Enillodd Susan gefnogaeth drawsbleidiol i gyflwyno mesur yn San Steffan oedd yn ceisio adolygu dedfrydu ar gyfer gyrwyr didrwydded neu heb yswiriant sy’n lladd neu’n anafu pobl yn ddifrifol. Dyfarnwyd Susan yr anrhydedd ‘Seneddwr y Flwyddyn 2015′ gan BRAKE, yr elusen genedlaethol dros ddiogelwch ar ein ffyrdd.

Mae ei hymgyrchu hefyd wedi chwarae rôl sylweddol wrth berswadio’r Llywodraeth i gynnal adolygiad dedfrydu ar gyfer holl droseddau gyrru.
