Welsh Labour Leadership Candidates

Candidate Mark Drakeford

Mark was born and brought up in West Wales. He joined the Labour Party at 18. He has lived in Cardiff since 1979, working as a probation officer and for Barnardo's. He became a councillor in 1985. During the 1990s he worked at Swansea and Cardiff universities, before becoming Rhodri Morgan's special adviser for ten years. In 2011 he was elected to the Assembly. He has been Labour's Health Minister, Finance Minister and leads for the Welsh Government on Brexit. Politically he belongs to the radical, Welsh socialist tradition and is standing for election to offer that political choice.

Cafodd Mark ei eni a'i fagu yng ngorllewin Cymru. Ymunodd â'r Blaid Lafur yn 18 oed. Mae wedi byw yng Nghaerdydd ers 1979, gan weithio fel swyddog prawf ac i fudiad Barnardo. Daeth yn gynghorydd yn 1985. Yn ystod y 1990au bu'n gweithio ym mhrifysgolion Abertawe a Chaerdydd, cyn dod yn gynghorydd arbennig i Rhodri Morgan am ddeng mlynedd. Yn 2011 cafodd ei ethol i'r Cynulliad. Mae wedi bod yn Weinidog Iechyd Llafur, ac yn Weinidog Cyllid ac mae'n arwain ar ran Llywodraeth Cymru ar Brexit. Yn wleidyddol mae'n perthyn i'r traddodiad radical, sosialaidd Cymreig.
