The Welsh Labour Government provides all children in primary education with a free school breakfast to start their day off right. Since it was first introduced in 2004, thousands of children have been starting their days with nutritionally balanced meals and heading into their first classes of the day on a full stomach. Having a healthy breakfast helps to improve children’s health and concentration.

Every primary school child in a school maintained by a local authority can have a free breakfast at school, if their school provides free breakfasts. If their school does not provide free breakfasts, you can request that they do so.

The Welsh Labour Government also offers a Free School Meals programme (FSM) to children from low-income families.
