If they form the next Welsh Government, the Tories in Wales have pledged to stop investing in any area outside devolved responsibilities.

A Tory government in Wales would take the axe to:

MAJOR RAIL INVESTMENTS – CUT

  • The recent Welsh Labour Government investment of £70m to help fund four trains an hour to Ebbw Vale would be cancelled.

MAJOR BROADBAND AND DIGITAL INVESTMENTS – CUT

  • Around 750,000 properties have got access to fast broadband thanks to the Welsh Labour Government’s investment. All future broadband investments would be shelved.

  • £26m is in the Welsh Governments budget for 2021-22 for various infrastructure work including the Next Generation Access Broadband Wales project to connect 39,000 premises to get gigabit broadband speeds.

THE DISCRETIONARY ASSISTANCE FUND – CUT

  • These are emergency payments to individuals and families in desperate need for essential costs such as food, gas, electricity, clothing or emergency travel. Since the start of the DAF in 2013 more than 419,000 awards have been made totalling over £71.1m. Last year the Welsh Government added an additional £11m to the DAF budget. Worth on average £65, well over 200,000 have been issued since the pandemic. These would be scrapped.

POLICE COMMUNITY SUPPORT OFFICERS – CUT

  • 600 PCSOs (the 500 the Welsh Labour Government currently funds and the 100 extra it will fund next term) would be cut.

  • When our 100 extra PCSOs come on stream, the Welsh Labour Government’s funding totals £22m.

SUPPORT FOR VETERANS – CUT

  • We currently fund five Armed Forces Liaison Officers as part of our Armed Forces Covenant. This is part of a package of more than £500,000 every year the Welsh Labour Government spends on vital support for veterans.

  • These services would disappear.

EXPORT SUPPORT FOR BUSINESSES – CUT

  • The Welsh Labour Government currently funds 21 International offices across the world to help Welsh businesses export their goods and increase their trade overseas. These offices would all close.

MAJOR SUPPORT FOR YOUNG PEOPLE – CUT

  • The Welsh Labour Government is funding a new £65m international learning exchange programme for 15,000 students, following the UK Government’s decision to withdraw from the popular Erasmus+ scheme. This programme would be binned.

WALES FOR AFRICA PROGRAMME – CUT

  • The Wales for Africa Programme has been helping Wales make a contribution to the fight against poverty in sub-Saharan Africa since 2006. More than £12m has been invested since 2006. It would come to an immediate end.

VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN, DOMESTIC ABUSE AND SEXUAL VIOLENCE FUNDING – CUT

  • In the 2021/2 Budget, Welsh Labour Government has funded £6.8m Revenue and £2.1m Capital.

  • Some outputs of that work can be found here including over 180,000 professionals who have been trained through our national training framework; 154,056 children and young people have been educated about healthy relationships through the Spectrum project and 156,326 contacts have been helped through our Live Fear Free helpline.

  • This programme would cease.
